Sweet 2020 Darlings,
We’re already halfway through Jan! Jan; what a name for a Brady, what a name for a month! This Ol’ Newsie is gonna be what we call a news BRIEF because it will be uncharacteristically short (feign sadness for our vanity!)— there’s a lot cookin’ in our metaphorical kitchen and we don’t want to burn Ol’ Newsie so we gotta get her out fast! Last week in a word? GREAT. In more words: MAGICAL, INSPIRING, EXCITING, CANDY, ENCHANTING! We had a lot of literal magic on the stage (Taylor Hughes! Ben Seidman!) and Kevin McDonald was “electrifyingly fun!” - Jamie Flam. Our Go! Day this Sunday was one of our favorite EVER (we’re sure we sound like a broken record on our Go! Day enthusiasm but actually it’s because Go! Days keep getting better and better! So really, the record is actually the most functional record ever? The record is… evolving!) In addition to our amazing line-up of guests, our Go! Day audience (heretofore known as the Go-Getters) witnessed: the christening of 2020 as our “candy year” “Sugar. Oh, 2020. You are our CANDY YEAR. So many things we want to chew!” (to the tune of The Archie’s Sugar Sugar), The introduction of LOLLIPUP, the official mascot of Candy Year! The roll out of our vegan hot dog brand and it’s Lollipup Gang mascot SCHLOBBERDÄG! AND the Go-Getters were also treated to a priceless lesson in showbiz magic, and invited to stay after the show to watch a new pitch from Go! Day GOAT, Emmy™ winner, show runner of The Office, and amazing writer, sharp dresser, and productivity guru Brent Forrester! Note to your future selves: come to Go! Day for guaranteed goodness PLUS magical surprises. Note to your current selves: hey, you! You’re cute !
TONIGHT we’re so excited to have JON GLASER in the house! We love him and we can’t wait for this show. Oh gorsh, we wish it could happen twice! OH WAIT! He’s coming back SATURDAY! 2 chances, NO EXCUSES.
On WEDNESDAY we have The Kids in the Hall's BRUCE MUCCULLOCH’s one man show, Tales of Bravery & Stupidity! Stand up! Storytelling! BRUUUUUUCE! THURSDAY we’ll be using our NEW BIG AMAZING MOVIE SCREEN (thanks Santa!) for a screening of KAUFMANIA, a new comedy film starring FRED WILLARD that celebrates the genius of Andy Kaufman. In person we’ll have Kaufman Manager & Seinfeld executive producer GEORGE SHAPIRO and Andy’s longtime collaborator and Man on the Moon star LITTLE WENDY POLLAND. At 10pm CHLOE HILLIARD will be in the house doing some stand up & talking about her new book F*ck Your Diet. The cover of her book features her with a popcorn bra. 🤷♂️ It’s a no-brainer, folks. FRIDAY SNL writer and one of our favorite performers SAM JAY will take the stage and also likely take your hearts. Do you like things that are the best? Great! You’ll love her. At 10pm The PUTERBAUGH SISTERS present the premiere of Kitchen Women: two women trapped in their kitchen. The only way to escape is with pills, alcohol and each other. ♀️ SATURDAY brings the expedient return of JON GLASER (remember? We wished he was doing two shows and then we found out- OMG he is!) and at 10pm the return of our purple obsession RANDY FELTFACE and a WORLD PREMIERE SCREENING of his newest s special, THE BOOK OF RANDICUS. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with director NATALIE VAN DEN DUNGEN and RANDY FELTFACE himself, in the...felt!
SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY! SHELLY SLOCUM is doing her second installment of The Fetal Position and WE CAN'T WAIT! Shelly is charming, hilarious, amazing, and a former doula and childbirth educator. She puts together an epic show on female anatomy (women are amazing and mysterious! Unnecessarily mysterious! Let’s lift the veil and get to know what’s happening!) and more. This installment will feature an amazing group of women including: ELIZA SKINNER! MICHAELA WATKINS! SASHEER ZAMATA! REBEKKA JOHNSON! KATIE ASELTON! Plus surprises! Plus DECORATIONS (last time we got to walk through a vagina. YES, “GOT” TO! It was our privilege.) and SURPRISES and also proceeds go to Planned Parenthood SouthEast. In the past, sisters may have been doin’ it for themselves, but now, sisters are doin' it for each other! (Not sure that totally works, but hopefully you get the uplifting feminist / inclusive vibe we were aiming for.)
